Magnetic Grid Separator SGCM

Fields of application

  • The Lenoir-Mec SGCM magnetic grid separator protects your production lines from ferromagnetic contaminants in bulk product streams, offering a robust and cost-effective solution from the magnetic purification range.
  • Designed for industries where purity and equipment protection are critical such as food (flour, sugar, grains, spices), pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and plastics, it intercepts metal objects as soon as they begin free-falling to protect your downstream equipment. Suitable for particle sizes under 5 mm, it integrates into hoppers, silos, dosing systems, and packaging lines.
  • It is ideal for processes with regular shutdowns and moderate contamination. For a continuous 24/7 line, opt for the SGCP pneumatic grid separator.

Operating principles

  • The SGCM magnetic grid separator operates using neodymium magnetic bars arranged in one or two rows, depending on the model selected.
  • The material flow enters from the top of the unit and passes through the grid of magnetic bars in free fall. Ferromagnetic particles are attracted by the intense magnetic field and remain captured on the bars, while the cleaned material continues on to the outlet. This is known as magnetic separation.
  • During a production shutdown, the operator unlocks the front panel using the dedicated handle, then manually slides the bars. The captured metal particles detach and fall by gravity into the integrated collection bin, without disassembly and without direct contact with the impurities.

Magnetic technology used

The N55 neodymium bars (Br = 9,000 Gauss) provide high magnetic intensity, enabling the capture of ferromagnetic particles even in the lightest food powders. The 2-row bar version subjects the flow to double exposure to the magnetic field, for enhanced protection efficiency on products with a higher level of contamination.

Directions for use

  • Ensure that the flow is evenly distributed across the bars. A uniform free-fall flow rate significantly improves the contact time between the product and the magnetic bars, and thus the efficiency of ferrous material capture.
  • Monitor the inlet flow rate to prevent overloading. Refer to the nominal flow rates by size in the product range and do not exceed the specified QM to ensure the bars fully perform their protective function.
  • Adapt the magnets to the material temperature.
  • Preventive maintenance is recommended, visual inspection of the bars and the sliding mechanism. Cleaning intervals tailored to your level of contamination ensure constant protection of your process.

Best practices to optimize magnetic separation

Positioning the SGCM in the flow axis, with a steady flow rate and no turbulence at the inlet, maximizes contact between the material and the magnetic bars. If you have any doubts about sizing, our engineers will conduct a customized technical study prior to integration.

General features

  • The SGCM manually cleaned grid separator is designed to process dry materials with a particle size of less than 5 mm. It is available with 1 or 2 rows of neodymium magnetic bars, offering flexible configuration options depending on the level of ferrous material to be processed and space constraints.
  • Its 304L food-grade stainless steel construction ensures excellent resistance to industrial environments and full compliance with hygiene standards in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
  • Manual cleaning is performed by simply sliding the front panel, without removing the bars, for quick service and no risk of cross-contamination. The integrated collection tray collects the separated impurities.

Performance and options for the SGCM magnetic grate separator

  • Available options: ATEX 22 Ex II 3D version for explosive dust zones, high-temperature bars (150 °C), 316L stainless steel housing for the most demanding hygiene applications, and CCPU material certificate for traceability.
  • SGCM or SGCP? The manually cleaned SGCM is the ideal solution for lines with regular shutdowns and moderate contamination. For 24/7 continuous processes or those with high levels of ferrous contamination requiring automatic discharge without intervention, the pneumatically controlled SGCP is recommended.
