Permanent-magnet overband for mobile machines (OVAPEM)

Fields of application

The permanent magnet overband for mobile machines is used in several sectors:

  • Recycling and waste management: In mobile sorting centers, OVAPEM protects shredders and refiners by eliminating ferrous metals from wood, plastic and non-hazardous industrial waste streams…
  • Mineral processing: In the mining industry, permanent magnet overbands separate unwanted ferrous elements prior to fine grinding.
  • Temporary applications : For demolition sites, site clean-ups or one-off events requiring magnetic sorting.

Operating principles

How our permanent magnet overbands for mobile equipment work:

The OVAPEM magnetic separator is installed transversely above the conveyor transporting the materials to be sorted. Its position and suspension height are calculated based on the flow rate, particle size and belt speed.

  • Magnetic extraction: The permanent magnet block generates a powerful and constant magnetic field that passes through the layer of materials.
  • Automatic removal: The overband belt, driven continuously by an electric or hydraulic motor, transports the captured ferrous materials to the removal area located outside the magnetic field.
  • Continuous operation: The process is carried out without interrupting the main flow of materials. The underlying conveyor continues to transport the material while the overband continuously extracts ferrous contaminants.
  • Settings and adjustments: The suspension height can be adjusted according to the desired separation depth. The lower the overband, the more small pieces it captures, but with an increased risk of non-ferrous materials being carried away.

Directions for use

Advice from our Lenoir-Mec experts:

  • Optimal positioning: Adjust the suspension height between 200 and 500 mm depending on the depth of ferrous material in the flow.
  • Regular checks: Check the tension and condition of the conveyor belt (wear, tears), the alignment of the drums and the proper functioning of the drive motor on a monthly basis.
  • Periodic cleaning: Clean the belt and drums weekly to remove any potential residue.
  • Adaptation to material flow: For flows with a high ferrous content (>5% by mass), reduce the speed of the main conveyor belt or increase the suspension height to avoid overloading the overband.
  • Choice of motorisation: Choose hydraulic motorisation for mobile machines without reliable electrical access.
  • The electric version is suitable for semi-mobile or fixed installations with a 400V power supply available.

General features

OVAPEM stands out thanks to its design, which is tailored to the constraints of mobile equipment:

  • Magnetic performance: The 500 mm attraction distance allows ferrous parts to be effectively captured, even when buried deep within the material flow.
  • Robust construction: The frame and main components are made of stainless steel, ensuring
optimal resistance to wear, impact and outdoor conditions.
  • No energy consumption: Permanent magnets (ferrite) and optional hydraulic motorisation available.
  • Easy integration Weighing between 850 and 1400 kg depending on dimensions, the OVAPEM can be easily installed on conveyors between 800 and 1400 mm wide.
  • Available in a version for fixed conveyors with permanent magnets (OVAP).
