Magnetic separator for mining and quarrying
In brief
- Lenoir-MEC supplies mines, quarries and cement plants with magnetic separators: overband magnets, magnetic head pulleys, magnetic drums, high-intensity separators and metal detectors.
- They remove metal fragments, scrap iron and concrete reinforcement bars before crushing and grinding, and purify ores.
- Fixed and mobile versions are available, including the OVAPEM overband magnet for mobile crushers.
Challenges in mining and quarrying
A magnetic separator for mining and quarrying first of all protects crushers and grinders: a metal part that gets through can damage them and stop production. It also improves the purity of ores, aggregates and cement plant raw materials.
Contaminants to remove
- Metal fragments and parts that threaten crushers and grinders.
- Concrete reinforcement bars, scrap iron and metal waste in aggregates, before crushing.
- Scrap iron in cement plant raw materials: limestone, clay, silica sand.
- Weakly magnetic particles in ores, to be extracted with a high-intensity separator.
Suitable Lenoir-MEC equipment
Extracting ferrous metals on the conveyor
- OV electromagnetic overband magnet: extraction of ferromagnetic metals from ores; in construction and cement, protection of installations against metal objects.
- OVAP permanent magnet overband: removal of ferromagnetic contaminants in mining operations, discharged by a belt conveyor.
- OVAPEM permanent magnet overband for mobile equipment: installed on a mobile crusher, it separates ferrous metals before the grinding stages.
- APRF fixed permanent sorting magnet and RD fixed sorting electromagnet: ore purification and equipment protection.
- PAP(N) magnetic head pulley: removal of metal fragments to protect crushers; protection of grinding in cement plants.
- TAP(N) permanent magnet magnetic drum and STM magnetic drum separator: material purity in quarries and cement plants.
Purifying ores
- SLT high-intensity magnetic separator: extraction of weakly magnetic particles from ores; used in the mining industry, cement plants and foundries.
- AED-RX electrical cabinet: controls the eddy current separators of sorting plants for slag, ores and quarry residues.
Detecting metals before crushing
- Metcorr™ 117C industrial metal detector: protection of grinders in mines, detection of concrete reinforcement bars and scrap iron in quarries, and of scrap iron in limestone, clay and sand in cement plants.
- C-SCAN industrial metal detector and DDMC metal detector: detection of metals in extracted ores.
Frequently asked questions
Where should a metal detector be installed on a quarry conveyor?
Upstream of critical equipment (crushers, grinders), with enough distance to allow the conveyor to stop before the metal reaches them.
Ferrite or neodymium magnet for a magnetic drum?
Ferrite is suited to large particles and neodymium to fine metal particles.
Can a mobile crusher be fitted with an overband magnet?
Yes, the OVAPEM is a permanent magnet overband designed for mobile equipment. A hydraulic drive is preferable where there is no reliable electrical supply; the electric version is suited to semi-mobile or fixed installations with a 400 V power supply.
