In brief

  • The SGCM grate magnet separator, with manual cleaning, protects production lines against ferromagnetic contaminants present in bulk products.
  • It is used in food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and plastics, for particle sizes below 5 mm, in hoppers, silos and dosing systems.
  • It uses neodymium bars arranged in one or two rows; with the line stopped, the operator slides them out to release the captured particles.

  • The Lenoir-Mec SGCM grate magnet separator protects your production lines against ferromagnetic contaminants in bulk product flows; it is a robust and cost-effective solution from the magnetic purification range.

  • Designed for industries where purity and equipment protection are critical (food processing: flour, sugar, cereals, spices; pharmaceuticals; chemicals; plastics), it intercepts metal objects in free fall to protect your downstream equipment. Suitable for particle sizes below 5 mm, it integrates into hoppers, silos, dosing systems and packaging lines.

  • It is ideal for processes with regular stoppages and moderate contamination. For a line running continuously 24/7, choose the SGCP pneumatic grate magnet separator.

Operating principles

  • The SGCM grate magnet separator operates with neodymium magnetic bars arranged in one or two rows, depending on the selected version.

  • The material flow enters from the top of the unit and passes through the grate of magnetic bars in free fall. Ferromagnetic contaminants are attracted by the intense magnetic field and remain captured on the bars, while the cleaned material continues to the outlet. This is known as magnetic separation.

  • During a production stoppage, the operator unlocks the front panel using the dedicated handle, then slides the bars out manually. The captured metal particles are released and fall by gravity into the integrated collection tray, without dismantling and without direct contact with the impurities.

Magnetic technology used

The N55 neodymium bars (Br = 9 000 Gauss) provide a high magnetic intensity, enabling the capture of ferromagnetic contaminants even in the lightest food powders. The 2-row version exposes the flow twice to the magnetic field, for enhanced protection on products with a higher level of contamination.

Operating recommendations

  • Ensure an even distribution of the flow over the bars. A uniform free-falling throughput significantly improves the contact time between product and magnetic bars, and therefore the ferrous capture efficiency.

  • Control the inlet throughput to avoid any overload. Refer to the nominal throughputs for each size in the range and do not exceed the stated QM, so that the bars fully perform their protection function.

  • Match the magnets to the material temperature.

  • Schedule regular preventive maintenance: emptying of the collection tray, visual inspection of the bars and of the sliding mechanism. Cleaning intervals adapted to your contamination level ensure constant protection of your process.

Best practices to optimise magnetic separation

Positioning the SGCM in line with the flow, with a steady throughput and no turbulence at the inlet, maximises contact between the material and the magnetic bars. If in doubt about sizing, our engineers carry out a customised technical study before integration.

General characteristics

  • The SGCM manual-cleaning grate magnet separator is designed to process dry flows with a particle size below 5 mm. It is available with 1 or 2 rows of neodymium magnetic bars, offering configuration flexibility according to the amount of ferrous material to be removed and the space constraints.

  • Its food-grade 304L stainless steel construction ensures excellent resistance in industrial environments and full compliance with the hygiene standards of the food and pharmaceutical industries.

  • Manual cleaning is performed simply by sliding the front panel, without removing the bars, for a quick intervention with no risk of cross-contamination. The integrated collection tray collects the separated impurities.

Performance and options for the SGCM grate magnet separator

  • Available options: ATEX 22 Ex II 3D version for explosive dust zones, high-temperature bars (150 °C), 316L stainless steel housing for the most demanding hygiene applications, and CCPU material certificate for traceability.

  • SGCM or SGCP? The manual-cleaning SGCM is the ideal solution for lines with regular stoppages and moderate contamination. For continuous 24/7 processes or heavy ferrous contamination requiring automatic discharge without operator intervention, choose the pneumatically operated SGCP.

Benefits

  • Optimal purification: effective removal of ferrous contaminants, even small ones
  • Productivity maintained: no impact on throughput thanks to free-fall operation
  • Cost-effective and adaptable solution

  • Fast after-sales service response
  • Spare parts stock
  • Installed base monitoring and periodic performance checks

Frequently asked questions

What is the SGCM grate magnet separator used for?

It protects production lines against ferromagnetic contaminants present in dry bulk product flows, particularly in food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and plastics. It is suitable for particle sizes below 5 mm and integrates into hoppers, silos, dosing systems and packaging lines.

How does the SGCM work and how is it cleaned?

The product falls freely through a grate of neodymium magnetic bars that retain ferromagnetic contaminants. During a production stoppage, the operator unlocks the front panel and slides the bars out: the particles fall by gravity into the integrated collection tray, without dismantling.

What are the technical specifications of the SGCM?

It has 1 or 2 rows of N55 neodymium bars (Br = 9 000 Gauss) and a food-grade 304L stainless steel construction. The 2-row version exposes the flow twice to the magnetic field for more heavily contaminated products.

What options are available for the SGCM?

The options are an ATEX 22 Ex II 3D version for explosive dust zones, high-temperature bars (150 °C), a 316L stainless steel housing and a CCPU material certificate for traceability.

Should I choose the SGCM or the SGCP?

The manual-cleaning SGCM is ideal for lines with regular stoppages and moderate contamination. For continuous 24/7 operation or heavy ferrous contamination, the pneumatically operated SGCP is the preferred choice.
